DARK RIDE: ON TRACK OR TRACKLESS?
29 Giu , 2022 Marketing department

A recent trend that may have caught your attention is the trackless dark ride, which uses self-driving vehicles that do not require rails.
A solution that undoubtedly sounds awesome! Nevertheless, with this article we want to highlight the advantages and disadvantages so you can access all the information to draw your own conclusions on the comparison.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TRACKLESS AND DARK RIDE ON TRACK
A trackless ride is any ride that does not involve some sort of track. Instead of following a predetermined architectural path, like a track, the ride follows a virtual path determined by its programming.
This is through the utilization of similar technology to that of a self-driving vehicle, albeit on a much smaller scale.
In contrast, track-based dark rides are transportation systems that follow a shaded route, with a high level of set design and possible animatronics, interactive screens, and various types of special effects.
ADVANTAGES COMPARED

IS THE DARK RIDE ON TRACK BETTER THAN TRACKLESS?

As seen above, both have advantages and disadvantages. Depending on your specific needs, one type may be more suitable than the other.
However, our favorite remains the traditional on track/dual rail because:
- THE DARK RIDE ON TRACK IS CAR AFFORDABLE CAR
Compared to the trackless model the costs are much lower; this allows you to focus your budget on theming the ride, while improving the ride experience. If we think about it, it does not matter to the guest whether the track is present or not; what they are looking for is the adventure and excitement they get during and after the ride. For this reason, the wisest choice is to guide more attention to the scenery by focusing on what most attracts customers/visitors.
- THE DARK RIDE ON TRACK IS MORE STABLE
Having power always available not only allows stability but grants more special effects on board (sound, vibration, air, with one of the compressors, interactive systems, mechanical touches etc.). It is also equipped with a brush cleaner to always keep the brush blind clean.
- THE EXPERIENCE IS MORE COMPLETE
Unlike the trackless designed for flat terrain (they can go up hills, however something like a fall is extremely dangerous and an inversion is out of the question!) the track allows for uphill, downhill, faster spins and more powerful acceleration.
An unmissable experience is the ability to have the car suspended, offering the sensation of flying, as well as banking the tilt of the track, allowing the car to give the thrill of a fall risk; both of which are much loved.

- LESS STRESS AND MAINTENANCE COSTS
The cars do not need to be charged overnight. There is no risk, should you forget, of finding yourself on a busy morning with the cars unable to run.
As for maintenance: the costs are markedly lower and there is no need to incur expenses for battery disposal.
A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE
Will trackless rides completely replace other ride systems? Not likely.
However, we are always very attentive to our customers’ needs and desire for innovation. So, if your space does not allow for the installation of a track, you have a reduced budget for traditional trackless rides, and you need more ride flexibility…
We have come up with a simpler, more functional solution with reduced maintenance costs!
